| Premium sports compact
Since its Southern African introduction at the end of 2003, the fourth generation Subaru Legacy has carved a niche for itself in the fiercely competitive 'premium sports compact' segment of the market, by offering a unique blend of style, dynamism, technology and quality.
The Legacy has again been a beneficiary of Subaru's desire for continuous improvement with the introduction of Subaru intelligent Drive (SI-Drive), a triple-mode, driver-activated engine management system which allows the car's engine and gearbox in the case of two-pedal versions to be 'tuned' to suit a specific style of driving, or driving environment. The revolutionary system calls on the driver and vehicle to form a partnership. Entry to the Legacy nameplate still comes in the form of the 2 litre R, powered by a quad-cam, normally-aspirated engine of 121 kilowatts and 187 Nm while the 3 litre RB model is powered by an ever-more refined version of the flat six – at 180 kilowatts, one of the most powerful normally-aspirated production engines of this capacity in the world. Topping the performance scale is the 184 kilowatt 2.5GTB with a mind-blowing 339 Newton metres of torque on tap. |
